The Tower of Babel, Transhumanism, and the Singularity
Why the World is Feverishly Racing Toward Armageddon…
What child doesn’t know the story of Noah’s Ark? David and Goliath? Or Adam and Eve? Almost everyone is familiar with these popular Bible stories.
One of those popular stories is the Tower of Babel. Most people know it. But do they really know it? Because I would argue the Tower of Babel is more than just a story – it’s a prophecy of things to come.
In a video last week, we discussed the Tower of Babel, what it prophesied, what we see happening in our world today, and why I believe the Tower of Babel story tells us exactly where the world is headed.
In this article, I’d like to dig a bit deeper into the subject because what we’re seeing right now indicates our generation will fulfill the Tower of Babel prophecy.
The Tower of Babel
Before we delve into the prophecy itself, let’s revisit the Tower of Babel story. According to the Bible, here’s what happened several thousand years ago:
“At one time the whole world spoke a single language and used the same words. As the people migrated eastward, they found a plain in the land of Babylonia and settled there. They began to talk about construction projects. ‘Come,’ they said, ‘let’s make great piles of burnt brick and collect natural asphalt to use as mortar. Let’s build a great city with a tower that reaches to the skies - a monument to our greatness! This will bring us together and keep us from scattering all over the world.’ But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. ‘Look!’ he said. ‘If they can accomplish this when they have just begun to take advantage of their common language and political unity, just think of what they will do later. Nothing will be impossible for them! Come, let’s go down and give them different languages. Then they won’t be able to understand each other.’ In that way, the Lord scattered them all over the earth; and that ended the building of the city. That is why the city was called Babel, because it was there that the Lord confused the people by giving them many languages, thus scattering them across the earth.” Genesis 11:1-9 (NLT)

Having read this story, ask yourself two questions:
#1) What’s the story about?
and
#2) What’s it trying to tell us?
When you ask these questions, you’ll see exactly why the Tower of Babel is a prophecy of things to come.
Let’s start with what the people were doing. Do you remember why they started building the Tower of Babel in the first place?
They were building a monument to their own greatness.
At first glance, this doesn’t seem like a big deal. After all, people do this all the time. We build skyscrapers and monuments all over the planet, each one trying to outdo the others in terms of height and opulence. What makes the Tower of Babel any different?
That may be what we think, but it’s not what God thinks. As soon as He saw the tower being built, He immediately scattered the people and confused their languages. Why? Why didn’t He just destroy the tower and send the builders home? The Bible tells us the answer, and it’s the key to understanding why this story is a prophecy of things to come.
His reaction reveals a lot, because something concerned the God of the Universe so much He took immediate action to end it right then and there. What was so important, God had to put an immediate stop to it?
What concerned Him was this:
“Nothing would be impossible for them.” Genesis 11:6 (NLT)
Nothing? That’s right – nothing. So what does this mean? The Bible is telling us in plain language when the human race is united with a common language and a common purpose, “nothing” will be impossible for them.
God Intervenes
God’s concern was so great, He scattered the human race and confused them with different languages. In doing so, He specifically eliminated two aspects of human civilization at that time:
1) Global government, and
2) Common language
But our generation is on the verge of something profound. We’re about to see the world return to its pre-Tower of Babel conditions. Humanity is about to see global government and the return to a common language.
Global Government is Coming
Most people live under the false assumption we’ll never have a World War III. They think mutual assured destruction (MAD) will keep the world’s superpowers from engaging in direct conflict. But advanced technology is about to make MAD obsolete, and when it does, advanced technology will bring global government. I explain why in "The World is About to Change Forever… And Most People Have No Idea What’s Coming."
Whether you agree or not in regard to how global government will come about, you can be sure of one thing – it’s coming. After all, the Bible tells us so:
"And the beast was allowed to wage war against God’s holy people and to conquer them. And he was given authority to rule over every tribe and people and language and nation." Revelation 13:7 (NLT)
Jesus and the prophets told us certain signs will precede the Second Coming, and we see those signs all around us. Now, technological trends indicate we’re on the verge of global government as well. They also indicate we’re on the verge of once again having a common language.
Language Barriers Are Falling
Advanced technology is also assaulting language barriers.
For example, check out this video of two AI agents conversing on a phone call. When they both realize they’re AI agents, they switch to a superior audio signal for greater communication efficiency:
Artificial intelligence is growing exponentially. As it does, expect AI agents across the world to communicate with each other. But also expect humans to do so as well.
For instance, check out this demonstration of Google Meet's speech translation:
Using Google Meet, people who speak different languages can now converse while maintaining their authentic voice and tone in near real-time.
In Chapter 10 of my 2014 book, Signs of the Second Coming, I wrote the following:
"Even language barriers, which divided people at the Tower of Babel, will soon disappear. Today, English is spoken in most countries, and international collaboration is common. But soon, new technologies will enable us to eliminate language barriers forever. People will speak in their native language and, through a special earpiece, be heard in the listener’s native language. It’s only a matter of time, and once it happens, the language barrier will disappear forever."
We’re now there. If language barriers weren’t already gone, Google Meet just destroyed them forever. As of right now, we effectively have a common language.
Once we have global government, humanity will return to its pre-Tower of Babel settings. Then what?
Remember, God said if humanity remains united with one government and a common language, “nothing will be impossible” for them. This was more than an offhand remark. It was a prophecy of things yet to come.
God knew that – left to pursue its technological development – the human race would one day challenge Him. After all, what was the motive for building the Tower of Babel in the first place? The Bible tells us:
“Let’s build a great city with a tower that reaches to the skies - a monument to our greatness!” Genesis 11:4 (NLT)
The human race set out to build a monument to its own greatness, exalting itself above God and extending its tower far into heaven. But to what purpose?
With the sole purpose of seizing God’s glory and authority.
Now, let me ask you question.
Do you think this desire ended with the Tower of Babel?
No. It didn’t. In fact, it continues to this day. And soon it will result in one final attempt to overthrow God’s authority. Given technology’s exponential advance, that day will come sooner than most people think.
Exponentially Advancing Technology
The rapid advance of technology shows no sign of ending. Every day, more people gain access to the Internet, new information is distributed, and new breakthroughs take place in almost every area of life. Quantum computing and artificial intelligence make advances on an almost daily basis. For example, Google’s latest 105-qubit "Willow" quantum chip "solved in minutes what would take the fastest supercomputers over a quadrillion lifetimes of the universe to figure out."
With each passing day, the exponential curve of technological advancement becomes more vertical in nature. The closer it gets to going vertical, the closer we get to the end of the age. So it shouldn’t surprise you to learn many people who predict technological trends for a living also claim we’re on an exponential curve. And many believe the curve will go vertical in our lifetime. In fact, there’s a name for it.
The Singularity
In tech circles, the vertical portion of the exponential curve is known as “the singularity.” So what is the singularity?
In simple terms, it’s a future point in time when the technological change around us is so rapid, we can no longer comprehend it. In other words, technology will become so powerful (and the change around us so rapid) the world will simply pass us by. In a sense, human beings (at least “un-augmented” human beings) will become obsolete. Sound hard to believe? It shouldn’t.
Advances in technology aren’t taking place in a straight line. They’re taking place exponentially. For example, conventional wisdom tells us the next 100 years will bring the same amount of progress as the last 100 years. If that’s right, the next 100 years will bring great change. But is that what the next 100 years will bring?
Those who believe in the singularity say no. And all indications say they’re right. If technology continues to advance exponentially, the next 100 years will bring more like twenty times the progress we saw in the 20th Century! Can we even begin to understand what that means?
For example, the Industrial Revolution took place over 200 to 250 years. During that time, jobs and industries became obsolete, the balance of world power shifted, and the death toll of war significantly increased. The Industrial Revolution raised the standard of living and proved to be a net gain for humanity, but it wasn’t painless.
What will the world look like if similar change takes place in a single decade? Would you be able to adapt?
This has led many people to believe technology itself is a threat to humanity.
For example, in the Hollywood film franchise Terminator, humans create computers so powerful they decide to take over. War breaks out between the humans and the “machines” – with an advanced artificial intelligence in control of the machines. Is this where we’re headed? Is such a scenario possible? Some say yes. They say, “Humans will soon be obsolete.”
I argue they’re wrong. While it’s certainly possible for advanced computers to replace humans, that doesn’t make it likely.
As humans, I don’t believe we’ll allow our own technology to surpass us. Our collective ego is too big. Our pride is too great. Instead, we’ll simply merge with our technology. Think about it. What’s more powerful? Advanced technology or humans in possession of advanced technology?
I think the answer is clear.

So what do I mean when I say humans will merge with technology? What I mean is, in an effort to improve themselves, people will use advanced technology to modify their bodies.
Calling themselves “transhumanists,” these people look forward to the singularity with a religious fervor. Many believe it will lead to the emergence of “post-biological humans.” These are people who seek to shed their biological bodies and “upgrade their hardware.” As a result, the brain power and physical ability of these posthumans will exceed anything a person of today can imagine. The end result? A human race with abilities so far in excess of what we see today, they appear god-like.
Transhumanism
In the past two decades, transhumanism has gone from a fringe movement to the dominant philosophy in Silicon Valley and the social circles of globalists and world leaders. Many within the movement believe that by downloading themselves into a network, they will effectively become “immortal.” True believers have modified their diets, exercise regimens, and entire lifestyle in an effort to increase the likelihood of living to witness human reversal of the aging process and eventual human “immortality.”
Ray Kurzweil – inventor, author, and transhumanist – is considered one of the best forecasters in the world when it comes to accurately spotting short-term and intermediate technological trends. In Chapter 7 of his bestselling book The Singularity Is Near: When Humans Transcend Biology, he describes his view of the ultimate outcome of our technological advance:
“The matter and energy in our vicinity will become infused with the intelligence, knowledge, creativity, beauty, and emotional intelligence (the ability to love, for example) of our human-machine civilization. Our civilization will then expand outward, turning all the dumb matter and energy we encounter into sublimely intelligent–transcendent–matter and energy. So in a sense, we can say the Singularity will ultimately infuse the universe with spirit.”
According to Kurzweil, the universe will be infused with “spirit” as a result of the natural advancement of our human-machine civilization. This suggests the universe is not already infused with “spirit,” and that if God exists, His designs are inferior to those which will be created by the predicted human-machine civilization.
In the next paragraph, he describes the advancement of the human-machine civilization as approaching the very conception of God. Ironically, he admits the accelerating growth of evolution can never achieve the infinite character traits exclusive to God:
“Evolution moves toward greater complexity, greater elegance, greater knowledge, greater intelligence, greater beauty, greater creativity, and greater levels of subtle attributes such as love. In every monotheistic tradition God is likewise described as all of these qualities, only without any limitation: infinite knowledge, infinite intelligence, infinite beauty, infinite creativity, infinite love, and so on. Of course, even the accelerating growth of evolution never achieves an infinite level, but as it explodes exponentially it certainly moves rapidly in that direction. So evolution moves inexorably toward this conception of God, although never quite reaching this ideal. We can regard, therefore, the freeing of our thinking from the severe limitations of its biological form to be an essentially spiritual undertaking.”
The concluding sentence of this paragraph should send up red flags for every student of bible prophecy. According to Kurzweil, as the human race moves forward, it will seek to free its thinking “from the severe limitations of its biological form.” The Bible reveals mankind will one day gather its armies in an attempt to “break the chains of God and set themselves free from His bondage.” Psalms 2 describes this confrontation:
“Why are the nations so angry? Why do they waste their time with futile plans? The kings of the earth prepare for battle; the rulers plot together against the Lord and against his anointed one. 'Let us break their chains,' they cry, 'and free ourselves from slavery to God.' But the one who rules in heaven laughs. The Lord scoffs at them.” Psalm 2:1-4 (NLT)
Could this passage describe an attempt by post-biological humans to physically overthrow God’s authority? Could the chains that hold them in bondage be the “severe limitations of their biological form”? Remember, when this event occurs, Satan and his fallen angels are also inhabitants of the earth:
“Therefore, rejoice, O heavens! And you who live in the heavens, rejoice! But terror will come on the earth and the sea, for the devil has come down to you in great anger, knowing that he has little time.” Revelation 12:12 (NLT)
In his arrogance and desperation, Satan will advance the dark powers of the spiritual realm, aided by a fallen mankind with powers beyond our current limitations, in a last-ditch effort to defeat God. The technological advancements of the near future will provide mankind with unprecedented power, and the ambitious goals of the transhumanist movement place humanity in direct conflict with God Himself.
All This Leads to Armageddon
The technological singularity and transhumanism are taking us full-speed ahead toward one particular destination – Armageddon. For some reason, entire generations have misunderstood Armageddon. It’s not a battle between the armies of this world. While Armageddon is the gathering place for a literal physical battle, that battle is not between the rival armies of this world.
Armageddon is a battle between human beings and the God of the Universe. Find that hard to believe? Most people do. That’s why other interpretations have been popularized. But, in plain language, that’s what the Bible says. Mankind will literally take up arms in a physical war against the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Still don’t believe me? I don’t blame you. I wouldn’t take my word for it either. So go to your Bible, where you’ll find some passages like these (emphasis mine):
“These miracle-working demons caused all the rulers of the world to gather for battle against the Lord on that great judgment day of God Almighty.” Revelation 16:14 (NLT)
“Then I saw the beast gathering the kings of the world and their armies in order to fight against the one sitting on the horse and his army.” Revelation 19:19 (NLT)
The gathering of the world’s armies at Armageddon is preparation for an act of war. But the armies aren’t preparing to wage war against each other. Read again what Revelation 19:19 says. They gather together in order to plot against “the one sitting on the horse and his army.” Who is the “one sitting on the horse”?
Jesus Christ.
Despite the popular myths, Armageddon is not the final realization of Cold War fears of nuclear annihilation. It’s not the conventional armies of the world gathering to fight each other to the death.
The end goal of Armageddon is for the human race to break free from God’s authority. Impossible, right? I think this is why so many people have “spiritualized” these passages. The whole idea seems preposterous. People tell themselves, “Of course it doesn’t mean a literal battle. It’s symbolic. The forces of good vs. evil.” Yet, that’s our own minds talking. It’s not what the Bible says. Over and over again, the Bible describes this battle in clear terms.
For example, Psalm 2 has this to say:
“Why are the nations so angry? Why do they waste their time with futile plans? The kings of the earth prepare for battle; the rulers plot together against the Lord and against His Anointed One. ‘Let us break their chains,’ they cry. ‘And free ourselves from slavery to God.’ But the one who rules in heaven laughs. The Lord scoffs at them.” Psalm 2:1-4 (NLT)
Notice once again who the rulers plot against. They don’t plot against each other or Israel. They plot against “the Lord and His Anointed One.” Who is the “Lord’s Anointed One”? Again, it’s Jesus Christ. The armies of the world plot against the Prince of Peace Himself!
Remember what God Himself said about the human race at the Tower of Babel – “Nothing will be impossible for them!”
In fact, the Book of Daniel says the Antichrist will manage to attack “the heavenly army, throwing some of the heavenly beings and stars to the ground and trampling them”:
“Then from one of the prominent horns came a small horn whose power grew very great. It extended toward the south and the east and toward the glorious land of Israel. Its power reached to the heavens, where it attacked the heavenly army, throwing some of the heavenly beings and some of the stars to the ground and trampling them. It even challenged the Commander of heaven’s army by canceling the daily sacrifices offered to him and by destroying his Temple.” Daniel 8:9-11 (NLT)
The power of the Antichrist and the human beings of his era will far exceed what our generation can currently imagine. As proof, Daniel describes a time when the Antichrist will engage Jesus Christ Himself in battle:
“He will be a master of deception and will become arrogant; he will destroy many without warning. He will even take on the Prince of princes in battle, but he will be broken, though not by human power.” Daniel 8:25 (NLT)
The human race, led by the Antichrist, will take on the Lord Himself in battle. Like the Tower of Babel generation, the arrogance of this final generation will extend all the way into the heavens, where the human race will attempt to usurp the glory and authority of God Himself. But just like the Tower of Babel generation, their efforts will end in complete failure.
Conclusion
The transhumanist agenda serves as a reminder of what the human race is without the blood of Jesus Christ–an enemy of God. A movement that views its ultimate purpose as bringing enlightenment to the universe sets itself up in direct opposition to God’s own purpose. This is the very definition of rebellion, and it’s the inevitable result of fallen mankind’s sinful nature.
Yet despite our sinful nature, God provided us with the free gift of salvation through His Son Jesus Christ. All we have to do is accept this gift. Those who accept it will experience peace and everlasting life, but those who reject it will become slaves to sin, and their ambition – like Satan’s – will one day lead to an outright physical confrontation with God Himself. It’s a battle God will easily win, but this is the trajectory humanity is on right now.
It's just the latest sign of the nearness of the seven-year Tribulation and the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
